Most of us don’t think too much about the history of where our bathrooms came from. Maybe because the thought of what people had to endure before water in pipes and porcelain thrones is just too dreadful to contemplate? We are aware of course that we have the best plumbing in the world, whether we have traveled and been exposed to others first hand or not, but we take it for granted that we have something superior to everyone else and we are smug in that belief.

Because others did not have our fancy toilets and pipes that you can flush almost anything down they had to make do with their bucket of water.
